I am a big fan of Fanfood
My last few articles in this blog have had a space theme, and
frankly, one could be writing about space all the time at the moment, for the
first time in many years, since finally there are a whole bunch of exciting
things going on with space.
Today, I am writing about
something much more mundane, but an idea that I absolutely love. What these guys
are doing is to allow you to order your food or drinks, when you are at sporting
events, for delivery to your seat, or for pick up from a special location,
avoiding the queues which often prevent me from having anything when I am at
these events. There is nothing worse than going to the bars at Wimbledon, Millennium
Stadium or Wembley, when there is a break in the action, to find a few other
thousand people have done the same, and you have to miss good part of the event
if you want to eat or drink.
So, with Fanfood, you order from your mobile and they either
deliver to you (does not get any better), or at least you can pick up without queuing. You can check out a quick
intro here.
The concept is just great, as everyone wins. Fans get their food and drink without the wait, and can enjoy all the action. Concessions get to sell a lot more food and drink, since all those of us who normally walk away without having anything, as we want to get back to watching, can now spend our money without missing anything. It will even create more jobs, as more food and drink being served (and delivered!), means more people cooking, delivering and serving.
At the moment, they are only working with some concessions in some American stadia, but I will be cheering for these guys to make it into every major venue. As far as I can tell, the app and the platform are ready, now it is just about business development to get concessions to sign up. And, of course, why only sport? This would work for music festivals, and even airports, which is something else I would really, really like to see, as I still don't understand why I cannot order my breakfast or lunch before I go through security, so that it is ready and waiting for me when I get airside.

I will, by the way, be writing about a lot of projects like this. Simple ideas which use new technologies to hugely improve, with very little overhead, some aspects of everyday life. The potential in this area is immense, and I very much look forward to benefiting from the results of many of these projects, as they develop into market.
